Each device that's connected to the Internet has a unique identifier named IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computer systems, web servers, smartphones, switches, etcetera. The pool of IPs, which was introduced at first, is already distributed, hence the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are slowly getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name which opens an internet site comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it is hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is comprised of 4 sets of numbers from 1 to 255 divided by a dot, while in the IPv6 system it is called AAAA and it is made up of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. A good example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format can handle a considerably bigger amount of IPs in comparison with the IPv4 format.

AAAA Records in Web Hosting

If you want to create a new AAAA record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your web hosting account, it won't take you more than several basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is quite intuitive to use and it'll enable you to create or edit every record easily. As soon as you log in and navigate to the DNS Records section, where you can find all current records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you will simply have to click the "New" button, pick AAAA from a small drop-down menu in the pop-up that will show up, type or paste the required IPv6 address and save the change - it's as basic as that. The new record will be 100% active within only 1 hour and the hostname which you have created it for shall start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If needed, you will also be able to modify the TTL (Time To Live) value, which reveals the time in seconds the new record will be active after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply remove it.

AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you have to set up an AAAA record for a domain you have hosted in it or a subdomain you have set up, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks within the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even though you may have never had a web hosting account before, you will not experience any problems since you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All of the DNS records for your domain names are going to be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so as soon as you go there, you'll see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you'll be able to create a new one by clicking on the corresponding button. A small pop-up shall appear, so with just a few clicks you can choose the type of record you need and for which domain name or subdomain it'll be set up. Afterwards, simply paste the IPv6 address inside a text box, save the modification and 1 hour later the new AAAA record will be fully live. As an optional setting, you can choose the time this record is going to be active after you change it or delete it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the standard 3600 seconds in case the other company demands it.
